In “Traces”, the works of Lee Hyun Joung and Joan Saló meet in a quiet dialogue of ink and time.

From the flowing breaths of Hanji paper to the meditative rhythms of line and silence, their practices trace the invisible architectures of memory and presence — where movement becomes stillness, and stillness becomes a form of life.

Traces brings together the works of Lee Hyun Joung and Joan Saló in Room 1 of Galerie Sept Knokke, uniting two distinct yet complementary approaches to ink. Both artists explore the passage of time and the poetics of gesture, revealing how something as fluid as a line can hold presence, silence, and emotion.

Working on traditional Hanji paper, Lee Hyun Joung turns wind into a language of its own. Her series Mémoire du Vent unfolds like a cartography of invisible forces — breaths of air, fragments of memory, movements between the seen and the felt.

Facing her, Joan Saló, based in Berlin, constructs his paintings through repetition and restraint. Line by line, his ink and acrylic gestures become meditations on time — quiet, disciplined, and deeply human.

In this encounter, Lee’s fluid winds meet Saló’s measured silences, creating a dialogue between motion and stillness. Traces invites viewers to slow down, to look closer, and to experience the delicate balance between fragility and permanence that defines both practices.
