ULLA HASE German, b. 1966

Ulla Hase is a German artist based in Brussels, whose practice is primarily centred on drawing. Trained in Hamburg and Maastricht, she has developed a distinctive visual language built around repetition, gesture and the progressive accumulation of lines.

Working predominantly with simple roller pens on paper, Ulla creates intricate abstract compositions in which geometric structures emerge through an intuitive and highly physical process. Without preliminary sketches or predetermined outcomes, each work develops gradually through the repetition of gestures, allowing subtle irregularities, shifts and intersections to become part of the composition. The resulting drawings oscillate between precision and spontaneity, creating a remarkable sense of depth, movement and atmospheric intensity.

For Ulla, drawing is as much a temporal and bodily experience as it is a visual one. The line becomes a record of movement, concentration and thought, transforming the surface of the paper into a space where the rational and intuitive continuously interact.

Her work has been presented internationally, including at the Boghossian Foundation in Brussels, Nairs Lab in Switzerland and the Guangdong Museum of Art in Guangzhou, China.
