JEOUNGHEE KIM South Korean, b. 1984

Biography

Born in South Korea in 1984 and based in Paris, Jeounghee Kim is building an international presence through a distinctive practice spanning glass sculpture, installation and Korean calligraphy. His work has been presented at the Ireland Glass Biennale and the International Biennale of Glass in Bulgaria, and is held in the collection of Glasmuseum Lette in Germany.

Through meticulously layered glass, Kim creates sculptures whose apparent solidity gives way to shifting lines, luminous depths and unexpected transparency. As viewers move, forms reveal and conceal themselves, turning each encounter into an exploration of light, space and time. His command of the material gives these works both a striking visual presence and a subtle, contemplative quality.

His longstanding practice of Korean calligraphy adds a compelling dimension to this sculptural language. Viewed together, the two practices reveal an affinity for rhythm, line and the expressive potential of empty space. Between the fluidity of the brushstroke and the precision of constructed glass, Kim’s work proposes a distinctive dialogue between traditional gesture and contemporary form.
