JOAN SALÓ SPAIN, b. 1983

Biography

“White becomes rhythm in Saló’s work.”

Joan Saló navigates white as a space of repetition and rhythm. His paintings, built from thousands of hand-drawn lines using ink and acrylic, unfold like woven fields of thought — each mark contributing to a quiet yet complex visual structure.

There is a strong kinship to minimalism, echoing the meditative grids of Agnes Martin, yet Saló’s language feels more instinctive, closer to calligraphy or automatic writing. His gesture is both controlled and intuitive, allowing the surface to breathe while maintaining a precise internal balance.

Through subtle variations and accumulations, he builds volume without weight, and structure without rigidity. The eye moves slowly across the surface, discovering layers, pauses, and tensions that reveal themselves over time. White, in his work, is never empty — it becomes a space of introspection, an intimate territory where repetition turns into meditation, and where each line traces a quiet dialogue between control and release.
