THE ART OF REBIRTH

For Geronimo aka Jumping Bull, life has been a whirlwind of transformation—spanning cultures, identities, and creative reinvention. Born to a Russian mother and a Sioux father, he grew up on a North Dakota reservation, absorbing his ancestral heritage before being drawn into the modern world’s chaos. From a troubled youth to incarceration, Geronimo’s path was anything but conventional. Behind bars, he found salvation in painting—where shape, line, and color became his escape. Though he sees only in black and white due to an injury that left him blind for three months, his art vibrates with emotion and raw expression. Self-taught, he blends materials and styles, striving not just for likeness, but for truth—"My paintings are part of me." Once immersed in the world of business, both legal and illicit—where "money fell like rain"—Geronimo left that life behind. Now, art is his purpose. His portraits and sculptures, particularly his flattened Coke can interpretation of the Rolling Stones’ ‘tongue’ logo, have become iconic. A chance meeting with Keith Richards led to a deep connection with the band, despite Geronimo’s disco roots. His works capture energy, rebellion, and resilience, mirroring the rock legends who inspire him. Whether through large-scale portraits or sculptural pieces, his art reflects a constant drive to evolve—"Thinking that everything you do is the best is not me. I always work on myself to give more." In Native American tradition, a tribal name is earned. Jumping Bull—the one who leaps over obstacles—defines who Geronimo has become. Now based in New York and Belgium, he continues to push artistic boundaries, turning a life of extremes into a body of work that speaks to perseverance, identity, and reinvention.
