 DESIGN BEYOND FUNCTION

Nikodem Szpunar, born in 1988 in Rzeszów, Poland, is a designer whose work bridges industrial production, craftsmanship, and artistic experimentation. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he also studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, refining his approach to furniture and interior design. His creations range from industrially produced objects to short-series collections, as well as paintings developed through his own unique techniques. Recognized for his contributions to design, he has received multiple awards, including the Good Design award in Poland, the International Furniture Design Award in Asahikawa, Japan, and the prestigious Designer of the Year titles from Arena Design in 2019 and the Polish Institute of Industrial Design in 2021. His work has been showcased at major international fairs and exhibitions from Berlin, Milan, and London to New York, Hong Kong, and Japan. Since 2022, he has also been exhibiting his paintings, presenting them in Poland at events such as the Łódź Design Festival, Targi Rzeczy Ładnych, and the Michał Torzecki Studio, as well as the City Gallery BWA in Bydgoszcz. His collaborations with creative agencies and cultural institutions have resulted in numerous exhibition projects that transcend traditional design boundaries, allowing him to explore artistic expression beyond functionality and into the realms of the experiential and the abstract.
