ENRICO BACH GERMANY, b. 1980
Enrico Bach constructs painting as a space of tension, where geometry, light, and illusion continually test the threshold between image and abstraction.
DISSOLVING FORMS, REVEALING LIGHT
In his medium- to large-scale oil paintings, Enrico Bach stages a dynamic interplay between abstract linear structures and blurred figures that recede into the background. The lines in the foreground appear either to coalesce into form or to dissolve, while historical art references emerge in softened, almost elusive layers. Though his motifs are no longer fully abstract, their connection to figuration remains unstable and constantly open to question. Bach’s paintings operate in a sustained state of tension between representation and abstraction. Drawing inspiration from Old Masters such as Rembrandt and Diego Velázquez, he engages their capacity to construct atmosphere and spatial depth through subtle modulations of light and shadow.
Enrico Bach completed his Meisterschüler degree in 2011 at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe under Professor Gustav Kluge. His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou; Start Museum, Shanghai; Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe; the Würth Collection, Schwäbisch Hall; the Ritter Collection, Waldenbuch; KUNSTWERK Klein Collection, Eberdingen-Nussdorf; and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. He lives and works in Karlsruhe.
