VIKTOR FRESO SLOVAKIA, b. 1974

Biography

CHALLENGING PERCEPTIONS WITH HUMOR AND CRITIQUE

Viktor Frešo blends satire and critique to challenge contemporary society and the art world. Born in Czechoslovakia, he studied in Bratislava and Prague, developing an unconventional approach that provokes thought through seemingly simple yet conceptually rich works. His iconic sculpture, Pičus, with its oversized head and frustrated expression, exaggerates human flaws while questioning artistic conventions. First appearing in paintings in the 1990s, it evolved into sculpture, debuting as a full-body piece in 2013 at the Bea City Beats festival. Frešo’s work is widely collected, featured in institutions like the Wrocław Contemporary Museum and the Czech National Gallery. Through humor and provocation, he continues to redefine contemporary art.
