NICOLAS DUBREUILLE FRANCE, b. 1976
GEOMETRY IN MOTION
For Nicolas Dubreuille, geometry is more than a structural language; it is a space for exploration, spontaneity, and artistic freedom. Stripping away the rigidity often associated with geometric abstraction, he infuses his work with movement, energy, and playfulness. His unconventional path to art began with studies in graphic design in Bordeaux, followed by a move to Dublin in 1999, where he worked for a whisky company while dedicating more time to drawing. A transformative journey through Asia and Oceania led him to discover clay sculpture in New Caledonia, igniting his passion for three-dimensional form. This encounter took him to Milan, where he fully embraced ceramics and held his first exhibition at Cultural Area Frida. By 2004, settled near Bordeaux, he initially focused on ceramics before transitioning to resin and eventually aluminum, allowing his lines and structures to expand into space with greater fluidity. Dubreuille’s work bridges the gap between painting and sculpture, where bold lines and geometric forms become dynamic, three-dimensional objects. His playful approach challenges the rigid precision of geometric art, introducing a sense of instability and movement that defies expectations. Constantly pushing the boundaries of abstraction, he transforms geometry into an expressive and evolving language, where form, color, and material merge to create a world in perpetual transformation.
