STEVENS DOSSOU-YOVO FRANCE, b. 1969
Biography
“Stevens Dossou-Yovo constructs steel into fields of tension, where geometry, void, and perspective become instruments of instability, rhythm, and suspended perception.”
NAVIGATING SPACE AND FORM
Stevens Dossou-Yovo’s sculptures exist at the intersection of geometry, architecture, and perception, transforming rigid compositions into fluid, dynamic structures. By bridging the second and third dimensions, his work plays with form and void, balance and contrast, challenging the way we experience space. His fascination with science and descriptive geometry shaped his artistic language, allowing him to construct sculptures that alter with the viewer’s perspective. His process begins with meticulous drawings, reminiscent of blueprints, that evolve into sculptural compositions influenced by kinetic art. Each piece is first sketched geometrically, then transferred onto steel, where it is cut, folded, and welded into form. His signature modular structures, reminiscent of pixels, create a sense of fragmentation while remaining interconnected, much like foliage concealing the branches beneath. The interplay of materials—brushed and oxidized steel, acrylic whites, and photographic elements—enhances the visual complexity, using light and texture to reveal depth and movement. His work is both abstract and concrete, highlighting the unseen energy that holds structures together. The spaces between elements are not mere absences but active fields of tension, reflecting the delicate equilibrium between order and disorder. His sculptures, suspended in time, appear as digital constructs materialized into physical reality. Through his exploration of space, structure, and perspective, Dossou-Yovo invites the viewer into a shifting dialogue where movement and depth unfold like a visual equation, waiting to be deciphered.

Overview
“Everything begins in the virtual, but the most certain outcome is undoubtedly matter as object.”
Stevens Dossou-Yovo transforms steel into spatial structures that oscillate between architecture, drawing, and optical disturbance. Working through tension, emptiness, and perspective, he builds sculptures in which matter appears to dematerialize, allowing movement and depth to emerge as active forces.
