LAURINE MALENGREAU France

Biography
Laurine Malengreau transforms fibre into atmosphere, creating textile works in which breath, vibration, and chromatic presence unfold with rare tactile intensity

Based in Aubusson, a historic center of tapestry, Malengreau draws on a rich textile heritage without yielding to nostalgia. Working with Nuno Silk — where wool and silk are fused through heat, friction, and layering — she replaces weaving with gesture, proximity, and touch.

Composed on the floor, often at an architectural scale, her works unfold like textile paintings: immersive, atmospheric, and difficult to fix in words. They do not describe so much as they emanate, turning material into vibration, breath, and chromatic presence.

What makes her practice so compelling is the tension it sustains between softness and intensity, fragility and resistance. Her work belongs to a lineage of gestural and material abstraction, yet remains distinctly her own.

Installed in the former Fougerolles textile manufactory, her studio embodies this dialogue between memory and renewal. In a world saturated with speed and image, Malengreau’s work offers something rarer: an art to be felt as much as seen.

Overview
“The work of colour is, for me, an inner vibration.”
Laurine Malengreau transforms Nuno Silk into immersive textile surfaces that move between painting, tapestry, and atmosphere. Rooted in Aubusson’s textile heritage yet resolutely contemporary, her practice fuses wool and silk through layering, heat, and friction, allowing material, gesture, and vibration to become one.
